Cerezo criollo o cerezo negro con nombre
científico Prunus serotina familia de las Rosaceae con un sitio de origen en Norte América luego, traído a
México y normalmente se puede encontrar en algunas partes de Perú, Ecuador, y algunas
partes en la ciudad de Bogotá es reconocido por una altura aproximada de 30
metros y sus frutos que pueden llegar a ser comestibles para la fauna y el
hombre.
Tiene unas hojas en forma de
punta de lanza, el borde tiene forma de sierra y un color brillante. Las flores
están agrupadas en racimos y son de color blanco. Los frutos en forma de drupa
y con un color negro rojizo al madurar.
Distribución:
Nativo
del este de Norteamérica, sur de Estados Unidos, México y Guatemala.
Introducido en Colombia desde tiempos precolombinos, donde es cultivado en las
cordilleras Oriental y Central, entre 2000 y 3400 m.
ESTADO
DE CONSERVACIÓN: No se la considera una especie amenazada.
USOS
• Frutos comestibles; estos son consumidos
crudos o se los emplea para elaborar mermeladas, tortas, postres y licores.
• Madera usada en ebanistería.
• Con la madera se hacen piezas torneadas.
• Madera usada como leña.
• Especie apropiada para conformar cercas
vivas.
• Árbol ornamental, plantado en parques y
jardines.

It has some leaves in the shape of a spear point, the edge is shaped like a saw and a bright color. The flowers are grouped in clusters and are white. The fruits in the form of drupe and with a reddish black color when ripe.
Distribution: Native to eastern North America, southern United States, Mexico and Guatemala. Introduced in Colombia since pre-Columbian times, where it is cultivated in the Eastern and Central Cordilleras, between 2000 and 3400 m.
STATE OF CONSERVATION: It is not considered an endangered species.
APPLICATIONS
• Edible fruits; These are consumed raw or used to make jams, cakes, desserts and liquors.
• Wood used in joinery.
• Turned pieces are made with wood.
• Wood used as firewood.
• Appropriate species to form live fences.
• Ornamental tree, planted in parks and gardens.
